About Despatch Rally
The Despatch Rally event aims to bring together the motorcycling community to celebrate and honour the Despatch riders from whom motorcycle culture descended.
A despatch rider was a military messenger or motorcycle courier during World War I and II. They were used by the armed forces to deliver critical orders and messages urgently between headquarters and military units. They played an incredible role at a time when telecommunications were limited and insecure during the war. And we thank them for it and celebrate them still to this day!
The Despatch Rally is a weekend event for the whole family and all walks of life. We pride ourselves on being an inclusive event and where any machine can be brought along for the ride! Consisting of themed destinations and challenges throughout Dorset and Hampshire, rider challenges include motorcycle control and navigation skills. Points are allocated to each activity, plus to anyone dressing in military attire! Prizes are then presented at the event finale.
Camping is available for any Despatch riders at the Despatch HQ.
Mappercombe Farm is a safe environment to rest up after an intense day on the bike. Vans, motorhomes and caravans are all welcome as well as good old fashioned tents.

Only the most skilled bikers could become Despatch riders...
You will be scored on your performance and winners will be chosen at the end of the event. They also looked devastatingly dashing whilst in the line of duty. So you have the chance to score points for military attire or attending on a military themed motorcycle.
Despatch riders were renowned for their wild stories of adventure...
The Despatch Rally is a celebration of motorcycling freedom allowing each rider to approach the day differently. You will be provided a map but remember:
THE JOURNEY IS MORE IMPORTANT
